Practically did what was instructed. But my unit does not detect my aux source. What seems to be the problem? Thanks

2. Here is the pins assignment from honda taken from civic-eu model (this would be the same for all civic as it exactly the same for my civic-thailand model)
b3 = aux sgnd (ground for the signal)
b4 = aux sh gnd (shielding ground for preventing the signal interference from other devices)
b5 = aux gnd (aux detection wire for switched type female jack)
b13= aux l (left signal)
b14 =aux r (right signal)
b15 = aux det (aux detection wire for switched type female jack)
i'm really sure about the pins assignment but i'm not sure about the function of those pins.

3. This step you need one cd-rom cable with a socket taken from another cable. Route the wires as shown in the fig.

4. This step will finish the aux cable but you would think about where to place this thing in your car. So you should skip this step and go to step#5-6 then get back to complete this step.

Connect the other end to the mini-jack cable by inserting three pieces of hard wire between those female socket. Now you are done with the aux cable.

5. I would suggest you to hide this cable in the transmission pocket. Remove the pocket and route the wire as shown in fig.

6. Route the wire as shown in fig. Then go to step#4

congratulation! You now have the aux.

This worked well for me. I followed someone elses suggestion of using "paper clips". I just cut the paper clip wire to length (about 1 inch), made a small loop at one end. Then took an old set of head phones cut the male 3.5mm jack and wire off and sodered the wires to the paper clip pins. (one left, one right and one ground) I made a U shape with another piece of paper clip and used it to jumper 5 and 6. Plugged them all in to the white jack as explained about the paper clips fit nice and snug. Then I used electrical tape to isolate and seal everything up.

It has taken me long to type this respone then it took me to do the wiring. Great information thanks to everyone.

Nice DIY! Just did this today, and it worked perfectly. Didn't spend a penny, just took some paper clips and some broken head phones that I had laying around and works like a charm. Thanks!!

alright i have the center console my civic 06 lx sedan taken off..connected pins 5 and 6 to each other and now i can switch between cd and aux just fine.

the problem is when i try to play music from my iphone (using headphone jack as i dont have a dock right now), i don't hear anything at all unless i crack the stereo all the way up to max volume, in which case i can hear JUST BARELY hear very very very low sound playing through. i am using the headphone wire to paperclip method and have checked to make sure i inserted them into the right connectors.

is the EXTREMELY low volume (cranked on my iphone and on the civic stock stereo to max volume) because i'm not using a dock with aux out? or am i looking at faulty headphone wires?

Question for you guys. I'm working on an 09 LX that already has the AUX input from the factory. I am installing an aftermarket headunit. It's a Pioneer 6900 I believe. It has a 3.5mm audio input jack in the REAR of the unit. I want to plug a 3.5mm cable into that jack and then cut the tip off the other end and wire it into the factory AUX in port to give the dash a clean look. Yes I realize I will need a second cable to plug into the port, but that's not the point. I really won't even be using the feature, as it also has a dedicated iPod connection. But I'd like to retain that port if possible. It's already there, mise well work.

The problem I have is that the connector that is on the rear of the factory AUX in is not the white 6 pin that is posted on here. It's a green 5 pin. Any ideas which wire is which?

The color of the wires between the white connector side and the other side should be the same. or you can try using a continuity tester on a voltmeter to track the pin to pin comparison.

I just found this post and man I'm happy!!! I'll just get a female audio connector with a built-in switch for detection. That way I when I unplug, I won't see the aux selection but when I plug in again it should be there.

Thanks

So, I attempted this DIY today, and I was successful, to a point. My immobilizer is now coming on, and my car will not start. No wires were crossed or anything like that. I'm already sure its going to the dealer, but is there something in this procedure that, if done incorrectly, would cause this issue?

In reply to my post... it was the battery. Negligence on my part. Anyway, it works. I'm going to start looking into exhausts and intakes, can't mess those up... right...

Cleaner Install

If you don't want to buy the kit at the link below from your Honda dealer:

http://www.hondapartsnow.com/install...ry-jack-lx.pdf

but you want a cleaner installation than what is posted above there is another option. Go to Radio Shack and buy two things:
  1. a pack of 2 Panel-Mount Phono Jack Color-coded (these are two audio female inputs that have threading and a nut so you can mount them to your dash somewhere (part number 274-0852) - these are like $3.
  2. A 3 ft audio Y-cable which will be used between the mounted audio inputs just listed and your ipod, etc.

You will also need that same wiring used in the above post (I think this is 8 gauge copper wire) to stick into the aux harness and the ability to solder the wires to the backs of the mountable audio inputs that you mount to your dash after drilling two little holes.

If you take your time and solder the wires good to the audio inputs (following directions from ehow.com) and then attach the wires to the harness like they do above (using electrical tape rather than duct tape), then put your car back together you will have a nice clean installation without paying a ton for that Honda package at the link above.

I am going to try to complete this installation tomorrow and may post some pictures later.

I did this today and it works great! I have an 06 LX Sedan, and I used the paperclip method, along with a 2 dollar radio shack jack. Cost me 2 bucks to get an aux in! I'll post pics later...using the paper clips and shrink wrap, I got a nice clean install.

Thank You

Just did this mod today over the lunch hour. Used the panel mount 1/8" jacks from Radio Shack and put the input just above the stick, between the stick and the cubby.

It works great and looks great, I couldn't be happier with it!

Thank you!

Thanks guys!!! I was able to wire my auxiliary connector on my 2006 Civic DX, thanks to this thread!

For cosmetic reason and resale value, I've decided to use a 3.5mm 3-Conductor Closed Circuit, as opposed to have a wire sticking out of the dash. I also did the auto-detect wiring (I don't recommend to always have the Aux connection on - looping pin 5 and 6).

Here's how I did it: http://www.headbangerstudio.com/Othe...daAux/home.htm

.

Hi, Im gona try to attemp to DIY this tomorrow. Ive tried to take out the center console before and i didnt see any aux wire waiting there. So i guess ive to check whats behind the head unit. reading some of the posts above, all i need is locate the 20pin terminal. short 5 and 15 from aux detection and then wire the audio signal to 3 , 13 and 14.
im from the philippines and i might encounter the same problem as the guy above so i looked around the forum and saw this...

DIY: Aftermarket radio Install in an EX
on his post, he showed the 20pin connector but a different pin assignment.
#1 / Radio marking as TELMG No wire (EX w/nav?)
#2 / Radio marking as TELM- No wire (EX w/nav?)
#3 / Radio marking as HFT-11No wire (EX w/nav?)
#4 / Radio marking as REMC Pink (not used)
#5 / Radio marking as REMG Brown with silver stripe (not used)
#6 / Radio marking as AUXG Blue with silver stripe (not used)
#7 / Radio marking as AUXSH Flat black (not used)
#8 / Radio marking as AUXSG Brown with silver stripe (not used)

#9 / Radio marking as NAVSH No wire (EX w/nav?)
#10 / Radio marking as NAVG No wire (EX w/nav?)
#11 / Radio marking as HFT No wire (EX w/nav?)
#12 / Radio marking as TEL+ No wire (EX w/nav?)
#13 / Radio marking as HFT-12 No wire (EX w/nav?)
#14 / Radio marking as PASM No wire (EX w/nav?)
#15 / Factory AMP Power control wire Lt.Blue with silver stripe
#16 / Radio marking as AUXD White with silver stripe (not used)
#17 / Radio marking as AUXR Green (not used)
#18 / Radio marking as AUXL Yellow with silver stripe (not used)

#19 / Radio marking as NAVR No wire (EX w/nav?)
#20 / Radio marking as NAVL No wire (EX w/nav?)
(credit to the original poster)

im gona assume that if i were to follow that pin assignment id have to do the following:
-short 16 and 6 for aux detect
-wire left channel to 18
-wire right channel to 17
-use 8 as the audio ground
-use 7 as a shielding

please let me know if i overlooked something.
also, is there an easy way to take out that head unit? or i really have to go through all that panel removal?

thanks

oops, i just realized that he's holding the connector... thats why the numbers mirror that of the terminal. so i guess its still the significant numbers are still 3, 4 , 5 , 13, 14, 15
